Pinewood Studios have unveiled a brand new stage, named after Lord Richard Attenborough CBE.

Attenborough starred and directed in over 30 films at the Berkshire Studios, starting when he was seconded to the RAF Film Unit in 1943.

The 30,000 sq ft stage is the second largest in pinewood and has increased the overall capacity by 7%.

The first production to start using the Attenborough stage has been Les Misérables but is versatile enough to host large scale Light Entertainment projects. TV Shows like Sky's Got to Dance and BBC One's The Magicians were film at Pinewood in the last year, under the watchful eye of Head of TV and member of thecallsheet.co.uk, Simon Honey.

In a press release, CEO of Pinewood, Ivan Dunleavy said "“This new stage helps demonstrate Pinewood’s ongoing commitment to improving its infrastructure, and offering both film and television clients the most up to date, flexible and secure facilities possible. The new stage sends a signal that we are serious about growing and innovating to keep pace in an increasingly competitive, global market. I am also pleased to be honouring one of the true icons of the UK film industry. Lord Attenborough was involved in 36 films at Pinewood and Shepperton and it is fitting that we pay tribute to his amazing body of work by naming this new stage after him.”
