We spoke to him about Roughcut’s latest comedy, starting on Channel 4 on Wednesday 6th March at 10:30pm
Tell us about your latest show“Anna & Katy”
It's a big funny sketch show starring 2 great comedy talents, Anna Crilly and Katy Wix. The show has a great range of material, there will be parodies of shows like 'The Great British Bake Off' and surreal moments in 'French Biscuit'.
Many of the sketches feature several memorable cameos from the comedy world. How did you manage to get hold of so many of them and who else appears in the series?
Roughcut has many connections to get hold of great talent and the material was so good that we didn't have any problem getting people to sign on to the series. We have Lee Mack, Ruby Wax, Duncan Bannatyne, Martin Kemp, Eamonn Holmes and Brian Dowling
Anna & Katy are sought-after talent, what do you think made them choose Roughcut?
Roughcut has a great comedy pedigree, Jon Petrie, the producer, had been in touch with them for some time. We saw them live and saw that they showed great promise. We were able to get a pilot commissioned from Channel 4 and so it lead from there.
You shot much of the series in Wimbledon Studios. Why did you choose that particular studio?
In addition to Wimbledon having the right size of studio they had standing sets that suited our production and we found them to be helpful to our stretched resources.
It’s been a great year for Roughcut with critical and commercial success in sitcoms, entertainment & sketch shows. What is your focus and what does the future hold?
Our focus is always on making great comedy, we make sure that we work hard on the scripts and do not approach broadcasters with them until they are right. We hope the future holds more great comedy like last year's 'Cuckoo'.
As head of production for Roughcut, what are you looking for in individuals when you crew up?
We look for excellence in people and who will go the extra mile for the shows we make and who can work collaboratively. Whilst we look for a good track record in production we also are open to new talent who have a commitment and a flair for comedy.
Anna & Katy starts on Wednesday 6th March at 10:30pm, Channel 4. Don't miss it.
