Bad Education
A first look at the new BBC3 sitcom, written by and starring Jack Whitehall.
Adam Morris was the 1st Assistant Director on Bad Education and is a member of thecallsheet.co.uk. We asked him a few questions about the series.
What can you tell us about Bad Education?
It’s about an incompetent teacher in a secondary school, who is more juvenile than his students. Every situation he puts himself or his class into is a disaster waiting to happen
Its Jack Whitehall’s first sitcom script – Was there much improvisation and was it a funny set to be part of?
There was quite a bit of improv, especially when Matt Horne and Jack Whitehall had scenes together, there were certainly a lot of laugh out loud moments. Set was generally a funny place, Ben Gosling Fuller, the director enjoyed a relaxed floor, which made for an enjoyable shooting day
Did you shoot in a real school or in a studio?
We shot in a disused school in Battersea as it offered us all the shooting possibilities that we wanted. However we did build the classrooms!!
What was the most challenging part of the shoot?
We had to contend with quite a lot of external noise, as we were shooting directly under the Heathrow flight path, it transpired that the sound recordist found this a tad annoying.
But we were blessed with a really great cast & crew, especially Jeremey Hewson our DoP and his team, Ben Gosling Fuller, the director and Ben Cavey and Pippa Brown, the producers.
Odds on a second series?
Fingers crossed…
UPDDATE: A second series has been commissioned by BBC3 (31/08/2012)
