Do you have a passion for fashion, a love of great TV and an appetite for a fresh start? If so, have you considered a career in the costume departments of high-end TV series?
This dynamic and rewarding industry needs people like you to dress its stars and help realise its vision, whether that’s designing fabulous gowns for a Victorian ball or sourcing invincible armour for invading aliens.
Now industry body ScreenSkills is offering free training led by Emmy-winning designer Jane Petrie (The Crown S2) and one of her key supervisors Beth Gillman
This intensive Zoom-based course, running in early 2023 for 20 candidates, will give you a great grounding in the kinds of work costume departments do, the range of roles available – and how to put yourself in the best position to land one.
There is also a wide-ranging introduction to the industry, guest speakers and Q&A sessions.
At the end of the training, ScreenSkills will endeavour to source funded short shadowing placements for a minimum of 10 people on HETV productions.
The programme is funded by the ScreenSkills Film and High-end Television Skills Funds made up of contributions from high-end television productions and films made in the UK.
Who is the training aimed at?
We are looking for 20 enthusiastic people from all over the UK who have recently left college or university or who work in fashion roles outside the industry and are keen to explore the possibility of a career in high-end television (HETV). No costume training or television or theatre experience is needed.
We are particularly keen to receive applications from those from under-represented groups.
The sessions are scheduled for evenings and weekends and participants will be expected to attend them all.
ScreenSkills supports current and future generations of talent to flourish in the screen industries. We are committed to embedding diversity in all its forms, including geographic representation, in the workforce we help to build.
Please note that we cannot accept students in full or part-time education on this course.
